Massage appointment helpful tips

Scheduling an appointment

It is important that we know as much about your preferences, health situation and past massage experience as possible. If you are looking for a specific type of massage, deep tissue, relaxation, etc., be specific so we can pair you with a therapist that does that type of massage. Please inform us if you are pregnant, or have any major health conditions. We will ask you specific questions when making your appointment to help customize your session to meet your needs.

Preparing for your appointment

Personal hygiene is always important when you come in for massage. Shower or bathe prior to your massage.

Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to undress and dress easily. Your comfort and privacy are important to us. You may undress to a level that is comfortable to you (most clients are nude, or underwear only). Therapists are trained in the proper draping techniques, and only expose the area that is being worked on. Your privacy is always respected, and it is never required that you completely disrobe.

Arrive 5 to 10 minutes prior to your appointment time. This will allow time to check in, pay, and complete any necessary health forms prior to the start of your session. In the event that you cannot make it to your appointment, as a courtesy to the therapists and potential clients, we ask that you simply call and cancel. We ask for a 2 hour minimum cancellation notice if possible.

Your Massage session

Relax during your massage. Close your eyes and take full deep breaths during your massage session.

Communicate with your therapist throughout your massage session. Let them know if the massage is comfortable for you. The therapists are trained to use different techniques and can vary the amount of pressure to meet your needs. Please do not be afraid to provide feedback throughout your entire session. Communication during the massage session is valuable to both the client and the therapist.

Tips are appreciated but not expected. Like all personal service related businesses, it is customary to tip, if you feel that the provider has done a good job. A general rule of thumb is 15% – 20% of the cost of the service. Insurance clients are excluded.

After your appointment

Drink plenty of fluids after your massage on the day of your massage. This helps to flush out the toxins that have been released from your massage. Hydrating the day after your massage is beneficial as well. Remaining hydrated can help relieve muscle tension.

Should you see the same therapist for each appointment? Seeing the same therapist for each appointment does help you to maintain consistency and allows the therapist to get to know how you respond to massage and what you expect during your session but it is not necessary. Each therapist gives their own unique massage and you may want to vary the type of massage you get. Therapists keep detailed notes on each visit so no matter which therapist you see they are informed about your past sessions.
